Top tips for teething time

All of a sudden that sweet little angel of yours becomes a bit of a nightmare. There’s constant dribble, rashes around their mouth, they’re GRUMPY, all hot and bothered and, worst of all, THEY NO LONGER WANT TO SLEEP!

Your little darling has started the teething process and just wants to chew, chew, chew.

Now, let’s remember something here. My babies are big girls now but the following helped in the old days:

  • Cut up a baguette (french bread). Spread lightly with Marmite/Vegemite then bake in the oven until really firm. It comes out nice and hard and tasty. They loved them to chew on and they distract from the pain.
  • Old fashioned rusks. I don’t even know if these are produced nowadays but there will be a recipe somewhere on good old Google
  • A little smear of Vaseline on the chin forms a barrier so rashes from the constant dribble are less likely. This works on the nether regions also!
  • Bonjela – yay!

There are loads of newer options like teething necklaces and various teething rings. Hatchling has a few options for teething time as well, so make sure you check out these products:

Robyn’s the mum of two wonderful girls — she has to say that, one of them is Hatchling creator Lara Wyatt! Lara approached Robyn to write for Hatchling’s blog as Robyn has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to raising kids, and what better opportunity to get mum involved in the Hatchling world right?
