How fenugreek can help your breastfeeding experience

It’s a herb that’s been around forever, but you may not have heard of it. Fenugreek is a common ingredient in dishes from South and Central Asia, but it’s got a whole lot of usefulness that you may not know about. For one, it’s something that may help people on their breastfeeding journey. Since way back when in places like Rome and India, fenugreek has been linked with supporting birth and lactation.

There’s no two ways about it. Breastfeeding can be a tumultuous journey. Something you may think of as a natural occurrence, is not always a straightforward simple experience for all mums. It’s hard.

One of the troubles that many mums encounter is the inability to produce enough milk for a demanding, hungry baby. Often, people may turn to medications prescribed by their doctor to try to up the ante on their milk production. But there are many people who don’t like to pump (no pun intended, but I’ll take it) their body up with drugs. For those looking for a natural ingredient to help their body produce more milk, looking in fenugreek’s direction may just be a great choice.

According to a study discussed by Healthline, new mothers were given fenugreek herbal tea, and there was a strong connection between those who drank the tea seeing increased breast milk production. This increased breast milk production helped their babies gain more weight.

Fenugreek is still in its early days in our modern society of being used as a supplement, but the more we learn about it, the more promising it looks. If you’re breastfeeding, and you’d like to try something with fenugreek as an ingredient to see if your milk production will increase, we’ve got Totally Devoted’s Feeding Cookies with Fenugreek and Fennel for you to try.
